A new fire station is being built in Ascholding for 1.6 million euros.

The old one is nothing more than a garage.

Ascholding

- No heating, no toilet and no changing facilities - the old fire station in Ascholding "is nothing more than a garage," explained Mayor Josef Hauser during an on-site visit on Tuesday morning.

There is an even more compelling reason why the volunteer fire brigade is moving to new premises in the coming year: the building on Kirchweg, which was built in 1909, is much too small for today's fire engines.

"We've been looking for a new location since 2015," reported CEO Hans Walleitner.

But none of the alternatives examined proved to be suitable.

"With the construction of the new local supplier and the relocation of Eglinger Strasse, a new area was created on Tattenkofener Strasse within the local area," explained Hauser.

The fire brigade and community quickly agreed that this would be the ideal place for the new fire station.

The state building authority in Weilheim was also cooperative and agreed to the necessary extension of the construction window in the direction of the state road.

Earthworks started on November 2nd

Earthworks began on November 2nd.

Just in time for the Askholdinger weir.

Because at the end of 2023, it should get a significantly larger and better equipped fire engine with respiratory protection equipment.

"This corresponds to the local requirements, which have increased significantly in recent years with the commercial area, the new kindergarten building and a biogas plant," Walleitner explained.

The Ascholdingers' portable pump vehicle, which is more than 30 years old, has already been discarded;

it went to the Ukraine as a donation (we reported).

To bridge the gap, they received an old vehicle that was just as small but was in a slightly better condition, which was decommissioned in Baiernrain.

The large fire-fighting vehicle planned for 2023 is still owned by the Dietramszell fire brigade, which will then replace it with a new logistics equipment vehicle.

In order to remain sustainable for a long use, the new building provides two vehicle parking spaces, said Hauser.

The municipality receives a subsidy of 60,000 euros per parking space - "vanishingly little in view of the total construction costs of around 1.6 million".

A photovoltaic system on the roof ensures that the building can largely generate the electricity it needs for heating, water and equipment itself.

According to Hauser, it should be ready for occupancy as early as next summer, but by the end of 2023 at the latest - just in time for the new fire engine to be handed over.
