Jimmy Lai, the founder of Next Media, was accused of colluding with foreign forces under the "Hong Kong National Security Law". The verdict was issued on Monday (28th).
After attending the event today (26th), Tan Yaozong, a member of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, stated in a stern statement that it is "absolutely inappropriate and absolutely inappropriate" to hire overseas barristers in national security cases, which violates the original intention of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress on the Hong Kong National Security Law: "If This situation cannot be changed, there is no way out, and the only option is for the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress to interpret and adjust the relevant issues.”
Application for leave to appeal is pending at the Court of Final Judgment to be delivered on Monday
Tam Yiu-chung pointed out that the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress enacted the "National Security Law for Hong Kong Area" with the aim of safeguarding national security.
He said that the case may encounter issues of state secrets and foreign forces, and foreign lawyers should not be allowed to participate in the case.
