Kranzberger gets hold of a series role: from freight driver to Hasselhoff's chauffeur

For Oguz Caner, driving is both a hobby and a job.

His skill behind the wheel has now earned the Kranzberger a role in the series "Ze Network" alongside David Hasselhoff.

– checked shirt, jeans, sneakers: Normally, Oguz Caner is casual.

But last year, Kranzberger slipped into a black suit and leather shoes for weeks.

He also swapped his car, a silver Opel, for a dark Audi A8.

He wasn't traveling in the Freising district with it, but in Berlin.

Because Oguz Caner was the chauffeur of US acting legend David Hasselhoff (70) – and by chance got a role in his new series.

A friend offered him the job

When the 44-year-old talks about the events of a year ago, he always has to smile.

They still seem a bit unbelievable to him.

Because in the beginning, Caner actually thought that his friend was only joking with him.

Caner worked at Moos Airport for nine years, most recently as a freight driver.

Corona ended the job and Caner looked for another job.

“A friend of mine works in film.

I asked him if he had something for me – maybe as a production driver, with light or sound.” He knows that he would like something like that – his name has been in the extras file for two years.

“The friend said he was looking for a driver for David Hasselhoff.

I said, 'You, I'm serious about this, let's do the jokes later,'" says Caner.

But it quickly turned out that this was not a joke, but meant seriously: For the filming of the spy thriller comedy "Ze Network" with Henry Hübchen and "The Hoff", a driver was needed for the latter during the shooting in East Germany.

"I figured:

Caner sends his CV – twelve pages, with a fountain pen, in calligraphy – to the production company and Hasselhoff's agency, and his English is tested in an interview.

Those responsible are satisfied, Oguz Caner gets the job.

Nervous about David Hasselhoff

At the end of July 2021 he will go to Berlin, get to know the team and the entire production.

Caner only gets nervous on the day he gets into the car with Hasselhoff for the first time.

“Before, I only drove freight, no people.

That's something else." But all the worries are unnecessary: ​​"Everything went well.

David Hasselhoff seemed happy,” says Caner.

In general, he was positively surprised by the actor.

“He is very down to earth, greets everyone, cares about those around him.

And he is also happy when someone asks for an autograph or a photo.”

Chauffeur's hat didn't fit

The longer he was on the road with Hasselhoff in the back seat - not only at the filming locations in Berlin, but also in Brandenburg, Saxony and Poland, the more it became clear that Caner would make a good driver not only behind but also in front of the camera .

"Actor Maximilian Befort told me every day how well I would fit into the crime comedy with my whole appearance."

The production finally saw it the same way: After a month and a half, Kranzberger was asked if he could imagine it.

For Caner, who already has 200 appearances as an extra and bit actor under his belt, no question.

And so he swapped jeans for a suit and chauffeur's hat.

"But it didn't fit because of my big head - fortunately, because that's how you can see my face at least," says Caner and laughs.

A few sentences of text are also part of his role, for which he meticulously prepares.

"Of course I wanted to perform well."

That worked: Caner can already be seen in the first episode when he picks up his passenger from the airport.

"I'm super satisfied, because nothing was cut out at all." His colleagues were also full of praise for him.

Now Caner hopes that the rumors that there is already a second season come true.

Either way: "It shouldn't be the last series you see me in." In any case, positive references from the highest acting circles shouldn't be a problem.
