Lewandowski was moved to tears: "He's been waiting for this for so long!" - Walla! FIFA World Cup

In Poland they celebrated the scorer's debut goal in the World Cup ("he drowned in the arms of his friends and did not hide his excitement") and did not forget the hero Szczesny

"He's been waiting for this for so long!" exclaimed the headlines in the Polish media this evening (Saturday).

Robert Lewandowski scored his first goal in the World Cup tournaments and although it was only his fifth match, he really waited for it for such a long time.

"After the goal, the captain drowned in the arms of his friends and could not hide his excitement."

The prodigious scorer scored 76 goals for the Polish national team until tonight - much more than any other player (Wlodimir Lewanski is in second place with 48) - but the 77 may have been the sweetest of all.

In the 82nd minute, the 34-year-old Lewandowski took advantage of a mistake in the Saudi Arabian defense, making it 0:2 and sealing a Polish victory there.

He deserves it.

With all due respect to Lewandowski's great story, Poland's man at the World Cup so far is Wojciech Szczesny.

Today the goalkeeper stopped a penalty in the overtime of the first half and immediately added a miraculous save from the rebound.

Szczesny kept a clean sheet for the second game in a row and he has 9 stops of 9 balls kicked into the Polish frame.

Sport.pl wrote: "After the victory over Argentina, the king of Saudi Arabia (the crown prince) gave the players a Rolls Royce as a gift. If so, after tonight's game our goalkeeper also deserves a Rolls Royce. A great performance by Szczesny, who finally gave A big game in a big tournament."

"Today we are experiencing beautiful moments," said coach Czeslaw Michniewicz, who has been under sharp criticism in recent days and especially since he was appointed to the position, "We have 4 points, but that does not guarantee us anything yet. I am happy that we scored two goals and I am satisfied that we reached the situations Increase the score. Chesney? He did a fantastic job."

the numbers

* As mentioned, Lewandowski scored his 77th goal in the national uniform - the same number of goals Pele has in the Brazilian national team.

* Wojciech Szczesny is the third goalkeeper in the current World Cup to stop a penalty and keep a clean sheet in the same game.

He was preceded by Guillermo Ochoa and Thibaut Courtois.

This is the first time this has happened in the World Cup (at least since 1966, when data began to be collected).

* Szczesny is only the second Polish goalkeeper in history to save a penalty in the World Cup.

The first was Jan Tomaszewski in 1974.

* The first half of tonight's game included 5 yellow cards - the most in a World Cup game since the 2010 final between Spain and the Netherlands.
