Poet Abdul Latif Issa: Vertical poetry is capable of carrying the data of modernity

Military sciences did not distract the poet Dr. Abdel Latif Issa from pursuing academic education, studying the Arabic language and its literature, and obtaining a doctorate in it, in order to refine his poetic talent through academic study.

Dr. Issa explained to SANA’s cultural reporter that he grew up in a family preoccupied with knowledge and culture. His father, the scholar Sheikh Suleiman Salih, was a glorious poet who instilled in him the love of culture and poetry and his knowledge.

He referred to the role of the mountainous nature in his hometown (Rehana Mtour), and its magic that influenced him, in parallel with the impact of the cultural environment, to make him love poetry and lend it at an early age. Nevertheless, he chose military sciences at a stage when our country was facing the Zionist enemy, between the June and October wars, and he prevailed. The love of the homeland has the love of poetry to join the Military College at that time.

Issa pointed out that he continued his interest in literature alongside his work to publish his first collection of poetry entitled (Rhymes Will Not Fulfill) in 1985, which are vertical poems that simulate that stage in our lives, and glorify the homeland, Arabism and struggle. In it, he sings of the countryside, its beauty, and its village, which embraces rocks and mountains like its men.

Issa explained that vertical poetry, with its music and sweet rhythm that is in harmony with the meaning, is able to meet the requirements of modernity, and carry winged images and deep meanings, referring to the experiences of Nadim Muhammad, Omar Abu Risha, Nizar Qabbani and others.

He pointed out that the first condition for poetry is the talent that does not come with educational attainment and study, but is polished by them. As for the function of poetry, in his opinion, it is to address reality after portraying it, in addition to pushing the wheel of society towards construction and development by reminding it of its glorious past. Poetry can do what it does not. The sword does.

As for what we see today on the platforms, Issa believes that some of it is not poetry, as the true poet is absent from the platforms occupied by (interlopers and sympathizers). in literary events, and for critics to play their role in it.

He emphasized that there are great poets, but the conditions were not available for their appearance, as they are either absent or absent by the advocates of poetry, but history will do justice to the real poets, overthrow the intruders and preserve the original ones, as the poet remains through his giving.

Issa stated that his latest work is a book titled "Ambition and Conquest", in which he talks about the martyrs, scholars and men of thought, the contemporary stage and the consequences of the terrorist war on Syria and the sacrifices of the martyrs of the Syrian Arab Army and its victories.
