Officers raided Unit 1, No. 203-211 Nam Cheong Street, Sham Shui Po, smashing a suspected unlicensed bar.

During the operation, officers arrested a 59-year-old local man suspected of "unlicensed sale of alcoholic beverages", "possession of alcoholic beverages for sale", "operating unlicensed karaoke establishments" and the "Prevention and Control of Diseases (Regulations and Instructions") ) (Business and Premises) Regulations (Cap. 599F).


In addition, officers arrested 6 local men and 5 local women in the unit, aged between 46 and 72, suspected of violating "drinking alcohol in premises without a liquor license" and "Prevention and Control of Diseases (Regulations and Directions) ( Business and Premises) Regulations (Cap. 599F).

Officers then issued fixed penalty notices to them.

During the operation, the police seized about 80 cans of beer and a batch of audio equipment.

All arrested men and women are being detained for investigation.

The police emphasized that selling alcohol without a license is a serious crime and the maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of $1 million and imprisonment for 2 years.

It is also illegal for citizens to drink alcohol in places without a license. Upon conviction, the maximum penalty is a fine of $2,000.

The police appealed to members of the public not to defy the law.

During the epidemic period, members of the public should also strictly abide by the Prevention and Control of Disease Ordinance to help control the epidemic and reduce the risk of virus transmission in the community.
