Hong Kong Customs cleared customs at the Hong Kong International Airport yesterday (22nd) for a foreign woman who arrived in Hong Kong from Sao Paulo, Brazil via Qatar.

After the personnel emptied their two carry-on luggage, they found that they were abnormally heavy. Through an X-ray inspection, they found that the internal structure was suspicious. Then, six pieces of suspected cocaine weighing a total of 3 kg were found in the interlayer of the carry-on luggage, with a market value of about 2.6 million yuan.

Customs officers immediately arrested the foreign woman on suspicion of trafficking in dangerous drugs.

Hong Kong Customs Narcotics Investigation Bureau Airport Investigation Director Liang Zhipeng described the case, saying that yesterday (25th) afternoon, Hong Kong Customs Airport Division personnel cleared customs for a foreign woman who arrived in Hong Kong from Sao Paulo, Brazil via Qatar at the Hong Kong International Airport.

She was holding two carry-on luggage at the time, and the customs officers found that the luggage was still abnormally heavy after emptying it, so they further checked the internal structure of the bag with an X-ray machine.

As the X-ray image was suspicious, the customs officers conducted an in-depth inspection and found 6 pieces of suspected cocaine weighing 3 kg in the interlayer of the hand luggage.

The foreign woman was arrested on suspicion of trafficking in dangerous drugs.

The Customs Narcotics Investigation Bureau took over the investigation. The 43-year-old foreign woman who claimed to be a housewife claimed to be traveling in Hong Kong and is currently being detained for investigation.

It is reported that this is her first visit to Hong Kong.

Liang said that as the epidemic eased, entry restrictions in some countries and regions were gradually lifted, and the number of air passengers gradually picked up.

Customs has noticed an increase in the number of drug traffickers smuggling drugs by air, and has adjusted its law enforcement strategy in a timely manner to select people from high-risk areas for customs clearance inspections based on risk management principles.
