At General Motors in the USA, a new source of revenue has apparently been discovered: As has only just become known, the dealers have been repairing Tesla vehicles since 2021.

Hardly any other car manager makes as many headlines as Elon Musk (51) – most recently with the purchase of Twitter.

But the car manufacturer Tesla, which he manages, is also talked about almost every day – and mostly not in a positive way.

The "autopilot", for example, is highly controversial, as a recent test by TV journalists showed, and especially the beta software of the "Full Self-Driving" package - this was recently demonstrated by a YouTuber on snowy roads.

But things aren't always the best for the Texans when it comes to service and build quality either.

When it comes to repairs, something has apparently already changed in the USA quite unnoticed: Some of the Tesla electric vehicles are being repaired by General Motors dealers.

Tesla repairs as a new business model: GM President with a surprising statement

As GM President Mark Reuss announced to the surprise of many in an investor meeting, repairs have been carried out on thousands of Teslas by GM dealers since 2021.

According to his presentation, 11,180 Tesla vehicles have been repaired across the country.

However, according to the

Jalopnik

portal, this is obviously not happening as part of a cooperation between the two manufacturers - quite the opposite: Reuss said Tesla was investing millions to build more repair shops near GM dealerships - to continue Tesla drivers to bind to their own locations.

GM dealers repair Tesla vehicles: "It's a new business"

The General Motors dealers would have the necessary technical know-how through repairs on the Chevrolet Volt and some newer electric car offerings, the GM president said.

And it looks as if the carmaker wants to further increase sales with Tesla repairs: "It's a new business," said Reuss with a smile, according to the report - and that was "great".

GM dealers repair Tesla vehicles: Elon Musk's service offensive appears in a different light

Reuss' recent statements cast a completely different light on the service offensive that Elon Musk announced some time ago.

According to the Tesla boss, two thirds of all vehicles should receive the necessary service on the same day.

"No waiting times," promised the Tesla boss.

However, with a small restriction: The optimizations should initially only apply in North America - i.e. the USA and Canada.

In order to optimize throughput times in the workshops, Elon Musk has introduced another measure that is not undisputed: Customers who cancel their service appointment less than 24 hours before the start should be charged a kind of “penalty” of 100 US dollars ( converted around 96 euros, as of the end of November 2022).

However, the one-sidedness of the measure met with little approval from customers.

After Tesla drivers complained, Elon Musk said he wanted to change the system: Tesla will now also pay customers $100 if the workshop cancels the appointment less than 24 hours before it is due to take place.
