As of December 1st, the price of fuel may jump by one shekel per liter, an increase of about 15.5%, if the new or interim government that will be formed does not extend the excise tax reduction order that expires at the end of the month.
In addition, on January 1 the electricity rate will jump by 8.2% at the peak of the winter season, when many have to turn on the heating in their homes.
The water tariff is also expected to become more expensive by 3.5% subject to the hearing.
The fear is, of course, that the increase in the price of these basic services will increase the prices of additional products due to an increase in business expenses in the economy - both importers and producers.
Will Netanyahu succeed in stopping it?
We will recall that Prime Minister-designate Binyamin Netanyahu pledged to "freeze the generators of inflation" - the electricity, water, property tax and fuel rates.
The budgetary cost of all these amounts to billions of shekels and requires legislation in most cases.
So now we have to wait and see if the government that will be formed will be able to stop the wave of price increases before January and before the approval of the budget, which currently seems challenging.
