In a "Penzberg climate protection declaration", local companies and associations are to undertake to contribute to the Penzberg goal of climate neutrality by 2030.

The city had called for this in the summer.

Now she awarded certificates to seven first signatories, including the Werkraum association, Roche and the evangelical church.

Penzberg – The city of Penzberg has set itself the goal of becoming climate-neutral by 2030 and of relying entirely on renewable energies in the city area by 2035.

This is a "high goal" that cannot be achieved alone, but only together, said Mayor Stefan Korpan (CSU) when the certificates were awarded to the first signatories of the "Penzberg climate declaration".

In the summer, the city called on local companies, clubs and organizations to sign the declaration.

The signatories commit themselves to the goal of climate neutrality by 2030 and undertake measures to reduce CO2 emissions.

The signatories can name the measures themselves.

Hoping for imitators

He is pleased that in the first round "a broad spectrum from global players to clubs" signed, said Korpan.

One could ask oneself whether it makes sense if countries like the USA or China don't go along with it.

"But you have to start small," says Korpan.

If everyone looks at each other, nobody does it.

Carl-Christian Wippermann, head of the climate protection department, described the spectrum as follows: It ranges from "associations with one, two, three measures to large companies with a huge agenda".

He hopes that there will be many imitators.

Penzberg Roche plant is to become even greener

The "global player" among the first signatories meant Roche.

Plant manager Paul Wiggermann explained that a descendant of the company founders once co-founded the "World Wide Fund for Nature" (WWF).

Worldwide, he said, Roche has reduced CO2 emissions per employee by 70 percent since 2004.

He himself wants to help make the Penzberg plant "even greener than it is".

Michael Bauer, who heads the environmental protection department at the plant, said there was a roadmap to 2029, according to which CO2 emissions should be reduced by 75 percent compared to 2020.

To do this, numerous large-scale plants would have to be rebuilt.

Another signatory is Monika Uhl, whose company publishes the "Ausbildungskompass".

They had decided, she said, to continue printing the catalog on paper, but they used paper with an eco-label from a Bavarian printer.

Another signatory is the ESV.

As a board member, Wippermann was able to present the certificate himself.

As measures he named the conversion of the floodlights ("project with a radiant effect"), a team bus ("so that not everyone drives the car individually") and the purchase of products "that we can give the players with a clear conscience".

The certificate was also given to the Werkraum-Verein, which operates the bike workshop on Christianstraße and co-founded the repair café, both of which are sustainable institutions.

Anette Völker-Rasor also said that the association, which also looked after refugees, also taught them how to live sustainably.

The declaration was also signed by Doris Mühlfeldner, who runs the “Samt & B'sonders” shop.

She sells sustainable and fairly produced fashion, accessories and natural cosmetics there.

In this way, you also helped manufacturers to become even more ecological and sustainable, she said.

“Optik Millan” was also one of the first to sign.

However, because no representative was present, according to Wippermann, this certificate should be presented in the next round.

The evangelical church is also involved

The Penzberg Greens, for whom Birgit Kürzinger accepted the certificate, are also there.

She hopes the Greens can help make Penzberg carbon neutral by 2030, she said.

For the evangelical church, Herbert Mosebach said that the goal was clearly set to become climate-neutral.

He called the redevelopment of the church.

It is no longer heated during church services.

According to him, the vicarage will also be energetically renovated, and a solar system will supply the parish hall in the future.

Mosebach also reported that parishes are certified by the regional church.

Their environmental and climate seal is called "Green Gockel".
