The obstetrics department of the Neuperlach Clinic is to be closed – but the employees are fighting back.

With an appeal and a petition.

Munich – The lines of the petition read dramatically: With an appeal on

change.org

, the nurses and midwives in the obstetrics department of the Neuperlach Clinic are fighting for preservation.

The threatened closure of the women's clinic "would mean a deterioration in the care for all families in Neuperlach and the neighboring districts, as well as for the surrounding area," says the petition.

With this, the initiators and supporters want to reverse a city council decision.

Women's clinic is to close: employees are fighting against it with a petition

According to the petition letter, the background to the closure is the city council decision from 2015, which "plans to merge the obstetric departments of Harlaching and Neuperlach in 2024".

According to the initiators, this is happening on the basis of economic savings measures – it is not about improving health care.

The merging of the delivery rooms provides for the Neuperlach staff to be relocated to Harlaching - this is accompanied by the closure of the women's clinic in Neuperlach.

One is against the "profit-oriented measures in the health care system" and wants to fight against the closure with the petition, it is said.

Petition shows why maintaining the women's clinic is important

As part of the petition, the midwives and nurses also provide solid reasons for maintaining the obstetrics department at the Neuperlach Clinic.

Not only is the east of Munich growing, which is why more obstetric departments are needed instead of fewer.

As a location without a shortage of staff and with a well-rehearsed team, it is also important for the surrounding area.

In addition to numerous midwives and gynecologists, the petition was also signed by Mechthild Hofner, the first chairwoman of the Bavarian Association of Midwives, and Markus Rinderspacher, a member of the Bavarian state parliament and SPD representative for the Munich-Ramersdorf constituency.

Numerous Reasons for Receiving - Strong support in the comments

The petition currently has a little more than 17,500 supporters (as of November 26, 6 p.m.).

In comments to the midwives and nurses' letter, the tone alternated between support and outrage at the impending closure.

"I just gave birth to my child there yesterday and was shocked when I heard about it," writes one woman, for example.

Many other comments read similarly, either women report on the consistently good experiences they have had in the obstetrics department of the Neuperlach Clinic, or how important it is to maintain the location for the surrounding area.

The next milestone for the petition is already in sight: With 25,000 signatures, it will become one of the "most signed petitions on

change.org

," according to the website.

A petition was launched in 2017 and presented to Mayor Dieter Reiter with 2000 supporters - with more than seven times as many supporters, the new approach seems more promising.
