"I was afraid to fuck myself up": Claudio Capéo confides in his depression in "Seven to eight"

Little Claudio learned the accordion from his mother.

Tired of seeing him constantly argue with his sister, she decides to enroll her two children in music lessons.

He spent his childhood in Alsace with his Italian immigrant parents.

"It eats Italian, it speaks Italian, it speaks loudly at home"

as he likes to remember.

He is a shy child who, in adolescence, abandons his cumbersome musical instrument because

"girls don't like it too much"

He founded with his childhood friends a group, Claudio Capéo.

The name refers to the hats that are passed around in the audience to pay the musicians.

In 2016, he participated in season 5 of “The Voice”.

If he is quickly eliminated, he is spotted by a producer who will allow him to make himself known with the song

He refuses to sign alone with the

record company for him to separate from his friends.

Once the contract was granted for the whole troupe, the success was dazzling with gold and platinum discs.

But it's too heavy for Claudio Capéo to bear:

He goes into a depressive state.

, of having thought about suicide several times.

He says:

“I was a bastard at that time because I no longer thought of my kids but I was actually drowned.

I didn't go home anymore, I didn't see my wife or my kids.

I was losing my mind”

.

Today, the singer has found a balance, still supported by his wife whom he met when he was 18 years old.

Family is essential to him and that is why he lives only a few minutes from his parents' home in Alsace:

"my children can see where I grew up"

.
