Within the activities of the Syrian Culture Days, the Al-Assad National Library hosted a symposium entitled (The Heritage and Cultural Importance of Old Manuscripts and Periodicals Issued in Expatriate Countries).

Zubaydah Saqa Allah, who moderated the symposium, stated that the aim of its establishment is to shed light on an aspect of creativity in our historical heritage, and it is a continuation of the exhibition of heritage manuscripts and periodicals issued in the countries of diaspora.

During the symposium, researcher Sabri Al-Moadamani from the Acquisition Department at Al-Assad Library spoke about the axis (the old periodicals issued in the countries of expatriation), and the important role played by expatriates in the countries of the Diaspora, especially in Argentina, Brazil and America, and their contribution to the establishment of the Diaspora press, reviewing the most prominent periodicals in South America. And the north according to its geographical distribution.

Al-Moadamani emphasized that the expatriate press contributed to preserving the Arabic language and linking expatriates with news and events that take place in their homeland, in addition to strengthening the relationship between the Syrian community in the expatriate, and was an incubator for the creativity of writers and writers from the expatriate children, and also contributed to the creation of a literary movement that led to the emergence of Outstanding product.

As for the axis (the heritage importance of manuscripts), the researcher Heba Al-Maleh, assistant director of the Manuscripts Department in the library, focused on the methods used to preserve manuscripts from damage and extinction, as the idea of ​​preserving the book or manuscript preoccupied the mind of the writer or the paper he copies. On methods of preserving books from the depths of time, reviewing methods for preserving and preserving manuscripts, including determining the place and date of copying.

In his statement to SANA reporter, Director General of Al-Assad National Library, researcher Iyad Morshed, said that the symposium came to introduce one aspect of codicology, with the aim of focusing on the restrictions on the margins of manuscripts and their first or last pages.
