According to a survey by the Democracy Institute, 2 out of 3 Jews in Israel believe that soldiers should not be forced to participate in such events if they do not wish to do so, even though it is the exclusion of women • Research editor: "The times when there was a clear fence between the army and society are over, the disputes have entered the IDF as well"

About two-thirds of the Jewish public in Israel believe that attendance at a ceremony in which female soldiers sing on stage should be allowed only for those who wish to do so, according to the annual survey "The IDF in the View of Israeli Society" conducted recently by the Israel Democracy Institute.

In a survey recently conducted by the Smith Institute among 805 people, it was determined by a clear majority that despite the fact that women are indeed excluded, there is tolerance for soldiers not to participate in ceremonies where female soldiers sing, if they do not want to.

The full survey was conducted among a representative sample of all sectors and all populations in the State of Israel.

The specific questions were addressed to the Jewish audience relevant to these issues.

66.1% of the respondents in the survey answered that presence in the activity should be allowed only for those who want it, this compared to 18.4% who stated that the presence of the soldiers in the activity should be required.

7.9% replied that in their opinion a ceremony in which female soldiers sing on stage at an IDF event should be prohibited.

In the division according to political camps in the public, it appears that 10.6% of the respondents on the right expressed support for the prohibition of this activity in the IDF, this is in contrast to only one percent of the left-wing voters.

Dr. Idit Shafran-Gittelman, who led the study, says: "The social disputes entered the army as well.

The times when there was a clear fence between the army and society are over.

It is impossible to continue to leave an event to the mercy of the conservative military rabbinate, and a solution must be reached.

The orders will never provide all the answers."
