About two months after the affair broke, the Director General of the Ministry of Health, Professor Nachman Ash, and the head of the Department of Medicine at the Ministry, Dr. Hagar Mizrahi, presented today (Sunday) at a press conference, the results of the hearing and the decisions of the Ministry of Health regarding the insemination failure in Assuta Rishon Lezion.

This, following the case where embryos were exchanged between female patients in the medical center's IVF unit.

Prof. Ash announced that it was decided to reduce the amount of fertilization treatments at the hospital by 50%, from 10,000 to 5,000 per year.

Assuta Victims Patient Forum: "The Ministry of Health prefers, and not for the first time, to 'disappear' the victims, to skip over them - as if the terrible failure did not shake their lives. The Ministry of Health must understand that life is not a reality show. We are the victims, we have been awake at night for weeks, enough is enough For the full support of the hospital, which was allegedly conducted with appalling negligence. We call and demand from the Ministry of Health: Enough of the jarring silence! Talk to us and explain to us what is happening, give us an answer to all the difficult questions that we have not received an answer to so far."

At the end of the hearing held about three weeks ago at the Ministry of Health in Jerusalem, Dr. Mizrahi said: "We listened to all the hospital's explanations given about correcting the deficiencies, we asked supplementary questions and requested the submission of additional documents and documentation.

I want to emphasize that above all, the welfare of the patients is in front of our eyes, this is how we acted from the beginning and this is how we will continue.

Upon learning of the incident, we conducted extensive and in-depth investigations, after which we began the process of a hearing."

In the meantime, four other women asked the court for a parenting order for baby Sophia, who underwent open heart surgery last week for seven hours.

The next few days will be critical for Sofia, who has not yet left Sheba Hospital and returned home.

At the same time, other patients request to transfer their embryos to another hospital and join a class action lawsuit against Assuta.

About two weeks ago, the Ministry of Health decided that patients with frozen embryos at Rishon Lezion Hospital only, will be able to perform genetic tests without a court order.

Also, any pregnant or otherwise giving birth must have a court order for a genetic test to be performed.

The decision was made after a hearing with the representatives of the medical center.

During the meeting, the representatives tried to provide answers about the serious deficiencies found in the department.

"Since the incident became known, Assuta has been in advanced mapping, testing and improvement processes, in full coordination and transparency with the Ministry of Health, as well as this meeting, which was conducted in a constructive and forward-looking manner," the hospital said.

Despite the harsh criticism, the Ministry of Health is not expected to close the department completely, but only partially.
