An agreement between the Noam faction and Likud was signed this evening (Sunday), as part of which it was decided to establish a national-Jewish identity authority - headed by MK Avi Maoz, head of the Noam party. Deputy Minister MK Maoz will also be responsible for the organization "Nativ" and other units .

Maoz's appointment as Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Office is intended to allow the coalition to have a "quiet head" regarding private legislation that will be promoted in the Knesset.

Likud feared that MK Maoz, who takes a harsh line against the gay community and represents an extreme position on religion and state issues, would challenge the coalition with bills and preferred to appoint him as a deputy minister. Thus, he would not be able to promote bills in committees or in the plenary.
