At least five people were killed during a failed coup attempt in Sao Tome and Principe, a republic located in West Africa's Gulf of Guinea.
According to Agence France-Presse that at least five people, including opposition leader Arlesio Costa, were killed during the coup attempt that took place yesterday, while dozens were arrested.
For his part, the island's Prime Minister Patrice Trovoada said: "A coup attempt in Sao Tome and Principe was thwarted, and four attackers were neutralized and detained.
