Bruises, intimidated behavior, fearfulness - violence against women is often obvious.

But some suffer in silence.

The information evening "Be attentive together - No to violence against women" showed that one is not left alone.

The community of Altomünster had invited on Friday, the international day against violence against women.

An evening that should also give courage.

Altomünster

- "I had a client who experienced all forms of violence: psychological, physical, economic, social and sexualized violence," said Michaela Stecher from the intervention center against domestic violence.

The social worker has been working at the district office since the beginning of the year.

The position was established in 2007.

In addition to Michaela Stecher, Jürgen Dreiocker, police officer at the Dachau police station, and Laura Kaufmann, head of the Dachau women's shelter, gave lectures.

Between 50 and 60 visitors, including some district and municipal councilors and also interested males, listened, and some asked questions afterwards.

Altomünster's mayor Michael Reiter called in his welcoming address to always be attentive together and to take notice of each other.

The patron for the day of action was the deputy district administrator Martina Purkhardt.

She welcomed the fact that the taboo subject was being brought into focus.

You have to show solidarity "and raise your voice for everyone who is not heard," said Purckhardt.

The theme evening was organized by the CSU municipal councilor Martina Englmann, who, together with her parliamentary group colleagues, submitted a corresponding application to the market municipality council at the end of 2021.

Englmann moderated together with CSU district councilor Stefanie Burgmaier.

The topic has not been very public so far.

It was so important to Martina Englmann because, in addition to physical damage, mental damage "often lasts a lifetime" - even for children who are also affected.

Michaela Stecher told of a blatant case: the woman was beaten, monitored, locked up, insulted, threatened and finally reported by her husband.

She had asked him for money to buy a much-needed mobile phone for her daughter.

In the end, the man didn't like something again and he told the police that the woman had stolen the money from him.

In such cases, you can get help from trained police personnel, but also from the intervention center.

The situation is first clarified there, above all whether a contact or approach ban should be issued or even an apartment eviction.

"We give encouragement in every respect - no influence and also help in finding a women's shelter.

If there are children in the family, the youth welfare office is also involved.

It is always important: to secure evidence, to have injuries documented by the doctor.

"Video or sound recordings don't count," emphasized Stecher.

She also advised a safety plan: emergency bag, phone money, and photocopied documents.

Jürgen Dreiocker knows enough such cases from his 38 years of professional experience, but also cyberbullying or stalking.

Dreiocker has been Deputy Chief of Police in Dachau since November 1st.

Around 150 such incidents per year are recorded in his PI alone.

The classic tasks of the officials are to ward off dangers by mediating disputes or by addressing threats and prosecuting criminal offenses.

In addition, a temporary reference to a place or a ban on contact can be issued.

On average, this only applies to ten days.

And then what?

The women’s shelter is a “shelter”

Laura Kaufmann has been running the women's shelter for almost three years under the sponsorship of Awo with five places - a shame for such a rich country, as Tanja Lademann later remarked.

Laura Kaufmann also saw this in a similar way.

"It's a political issue.

In my opinion, there should be a societal right to a place in a women’s shelter.”

Five permanent employees, including a teacher, and some volunteers take care of women and children there in every respect.

"Here, women often experience for the first time that they are believed," says Laura Kaufmann.

The women's shelter is a "shelter" with a secret address.

Even if the man manages to find the woman, the problem can always be solved, Laura Kaufmann assured.

Lena Wirthmüller, former head of the Dachau debt counseling service, addressed the very high level of economic dependency that often keeps women from separating.

Because some wives do not work, there is usually a financial imbalance.

In the event of a separation, the woman would then be dependent on maintenance.

In the worst case, this could degenerate into insolvency proceedings for both partners.

Stefanie Burgmaier therefore advocated more "care work" by men so that women can also devote themselves to a profession.

Dagmar Wagner, FW district councilor and second mayor of the municipality of Bergkirchen, described education and training as the key for all women.

Angela Haindl, responsible for family counseling, equality and inclusion in the Dachau district office, emphasized: "Violence occurs in all social classes."

At the end of the discussion, Martina Englmann wanted to know how one should react as a private person if one notices violence against women in the environment.

Laura Kaufmann advised to offer open doors.

"And it's important that we all look out for each other!"

By the way, you can also donate to the women's shelter.

Information about the district office.

That evening, a whopping 250 euros were raised!
