In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's largest city, Rostock, a woman has been elected mayor for the first time.
The left-wing politician Eva-Maria Kröger was on Sunday evening in the runoff after counting 109 of the 142 constituencies with 57.1 percent of the votes, uncatchable ahead of her non-party competitor Michael Ebert.
