The American newspaper Politico revealed that European officials are angry at the United States' policies towards the Ukrainian crisis. At a time when the European Union countries are suffering from an energy crisis, inflation and economic recession, the United States is making a fortune as a result of the continuation of this conflict.

The newspaper quoted a senior European official as saying: “The truth is that if we look at the matter calmly, the country that benefits most from this war is the United States, because it sells more gas at higher prices, and the same applies to weapons.”

The newspaper pointed out that European officials have expressed, privately and publicly, their concern about the growing anger in Europe over the subsidies provided by America for gas and energy in its lands, while their prices are rising in the old continent, which threatens to destroy the European industry.

Politico said a senior EU official described the situation as a historic turning point, adding, "The double whammy of trade disruption and high energy prices risks turning public opinion against the war effort and the transatlantic alliance and threatens to destroy Western unity on the Ukraine crisis."

The newspaper pointed out that high energy prices in Europe due to the purchase of gas from America lead to a rise in the prices of European commodities, which weakens its ability to compete, according to the same European official who called on America to realize that public opinion is changing in a number of European Union countries.

Politico quoted the European Union's chief diplomat, Josep Borrell, as calling on Washington to respond to European concerns, noting that despite the European voices objecting, Washington has not yet shown any sign of backing down.

The newspaper mentioned French President Emmanuel Macron's announcement that the rise in US gas prices is (not friendly), as well as the German Minister of Economy's call on Washington to show more solidarity and help reduce energy costs.

Ministers and diplomats based in other European countries have expressed frustration with the way US President Joe Biden's government simply ignores the impact of its domestic economic policies on European allies.

“Unfortunately, the United States is pursuing a domestic agenda that discriminates against its allies,” said Tonino Piccola, the main official in charge of transatlantic relations in the European Parliament.

Politico pointed to the escalating anger behind the scenes about the money flowing into the US defense sector that benefits from the war, at a time when it may take years to replenish the stockpiles of some advanced weapons in Europe, due to problems in the supply chain and the production of electronic chips.
