Demonstrations broke out today (Sunday) in China, in protest of the corona restrictions that have been in place in the country for almost three years.

The demonstrators also claim that as a result of the closure several Chinese were recently killed in a fire that broke out in a residential building.

The demonstrations are held in cities and on university campuses, and are not common in the country.

In a demonstration held yesterday in Shanghai, the protestors called for the removal of the Communist Party from power, and called for the Chinese President, Xi Jinping, to resign.

In another case the protesters shouted "No to PCR tests - we want freedom".

Protests in Shanghai erupted after 10 people were killed and nine others injured in a fire that broke out in the city of Urumqi, the capital of Xinjiang province, over the weekend.

Many in China believe that the victims could not have escaped the building, because of the corona restrictions.

However, local authorities denied the claim.

Documentation from the protests and the fire was quickly removed from the web, due to censorship in the country, but was also distributed on Twitter, because the use of this social network is banned in China.

"I used to be afraid, but today I have to shout for the sake of those who died," cried one of the protesters in Shanghai, whose video was removed from the network.
