Real or fake?

Lack of staff and a little trouble make you creative – at least at the Gardens Department of the City of Regensburg, which caused a stir with a sign.

Regensburg - Let's see if it looks like it - a sign from the city garden office of Regensburg, which caused a stir in a Facebook group at the beginning of the week, is not a fake.

It was an (probably unsuccessful) attempt by municipal employees to persuade the unknown originator of the dumped green waste to take action.

"Green space will be asphalted": Sign from the city garden office causes a stir

"Dear ladies and gentlemen, please do not dispose of your green waste in public shrubs or green spaces," it says, provided with several exclamation marks, initially still reasonably credible on the sign that was set up with the municipal logo next to a small green area in the west of Regensburg .

However, the subsequent threat is suspicious: "If the green waste is not disposed of by the polluter by November 28, 2022, the wooded area will be cleared and the green area asphalted!"

It was only in the summer that a street sign in Nuremberg caused a stir – reading it was a vulgar request.

City press office reassured, but says: "The sign is real."

After excited inquiries in the Facebook group “You are a real Regensburger”, the municipal press office gave the all-clear.

Of course, nothing is cleared here or even asphalted.

However, one contradicts assumptions that the sign is a fake, a hoax or a forgery.

The mobile phone number printed on the sign (pixelated here in the photo) is real and actually belongs to an employee of the city garden office.

It was hardship, creativity and probably also a good deal of anger that persuaded the city employees to reach for this pointed message.

Unknown had disposed of his green waste under shrubs

The background: An unknown person, probably from the immediate vicinity, preferred to deposit the waste from trimming his hedge directly under the wood on the urban area instead of taking it to one of the numerous green waste collection points in the city of Regensburg - free of charge, by the way.

This means additional stress for the city garden office, where there have been complaints about a lack of staff for years and who can hardly keep up with the work.

When asked, they said the sign was used to get the polluter to act or at least to think.

Shield caused a stir - but otherwise it didn't do anything

Because the leaves would rot, but the remaining hedge clippings would remain for a long time - and therefore had to be disposed of separately.

"And where would we be if every row house owner in the street suddenly disposed of their green waste in the public green?"

But the hope that this action would bring something was in vain.

The sign has caused some discussion on social media, partly for uncertainty, partly for laughter.

However, it did not impress the polluter or even move him to take action.

The remains of the hedge remained.

And so the green waste dumped under the bushes is disposed of by the garden department, provided that the employees there find time for it ...
