Al-Hasakah - SANA
The heavy rains in Al-Hasakah Governorate during the past two days led to the flow of the Khabur River in the area between Tal Tamr district and the city of Al-Hasakah for the first time during the current season.
And the Director of Water Resources, Eng. Abdel Aziz Amin, stated in a statement to SANA reporter that the rate of water flow in the course of the Khabur River in the aforementioned area reached 25 cubic meters per second, due to the flow of water in the valleys and streams that are located near it, especially in the area of Jabal Abdel Aziz west. Al-Hasakah city, however, the flow did not last long and continued towards the southern dam, since the main tributaries of the river, such as the Zarkan and Jerjab rivers, did not receive rainwater.
Engineer Amin stressed the importance of the rainfall in strengthening the groundwater reserves that need rainwater after a year has passed in which the governorate suffered from drought, which led to a decline in the reserves of all the governorate's dams and the level of groundwater storage.
It is noteworthy that the storage volume of the valiant martyr dam, south of the city of Hasakah, currently amounts to 89,600,000 cubic meters of the maximum storage volume, which is more than 600 million cubic meters.
