The political commentator of News 12, Amit Segal, reported this evening (Sunday) that the Likud wants to close the public broadcasting corporation.

According to the report, messages on the subject were conveyed to coalition partners, this time without opposition as was the case in 2017 for Kahlon, then in his sabbatical as finance minister and as a moderate figure in the government.

As I recall, the establishment of the Broadcasting Corporation over five years ago was accompanied from the first moment by calls in Likud to appoint Shlomov people to positions, and when their wishes were not fulfilled, they even tried to prevent its establishment.

A statement by the Minister of Culture at the time Miri Regev, who said "What is the corporation worth if we don't control it?" is particularly memorable.

Later, when Netanyahu was asked how he allowed then Communications Minister Arden to pass the law to close the Broadcasting Authority and establish the corporation, he said that he "regrets establishing the corporation, it slipped my mind."

The concern in the corporation now is that in the political corridors they will try to promote a law that will focus on reducing the budget or closing the news division of Kaan 11, which also includes Network B, and not necessarily on the general broadcast schedule, which includes the drama and documentary departments - which are considered public successes.

The Likud said in response that "the issue did not come up in the negotiations."

They refused to comment on the question of your position on the matter." The corporation chose not to respond to the matter.
