Schwaighausen – Ever since the hedgehog outpatient clinic was founded, the facility has been fighting for survival.
But this year this fight can hardly be won, according to Edda-Christa Zangmeister from the Igelambulanz-Gnadenhof e.

"The monthly operating costs are constantly increasing, unpaid veterinary bills have to be paid, feed and medicines have to be procured and heating oil is also becoming very scarce," explains Zangmeister.
The old, uninsulated walls would cool down considerably and become damp and mouldy.
"The only thing left for the helpers and animals is to freeze," explains Zangmeister in despair.
In addition, due to the corona and energy crisis, there have been no donations for many months, membership and sponsorships have been terminated and lease and operating costs have risen sharply.
For 34 years, the hedgehog clinic was a specialist veterinary facility with 24-hour care and only treated injured or sick hedgehogs with veterinary medicine.
Due to the ailing health of Zangmeister and the security of supply that can no longer be guaranteed, only acute emergency treatments may be carried out, hedgehog patients must be referred to technically suitable care places.
And yet there are still numerous hedgehogs and other small animals such as cats on the Lebenshof, for which Zangmeister is starting a desperate appeal for donations:
