The Competition Commission stated today (27th) that it had received complaints earlier that wholesalers in the Aberdeen Fish Wholesale Market were suspected of collusion in pricing seafood when setting wholesale prices for seafood, in violation of the Competition Ordinance.

The Competition Commission continued to point out that it joined forces with other government departments to take joint action at the wholesale market in the early morning and is closely following up on the case. It appeals to any fishery practitioners or citizens who can provide information on the case or related behavior, please contact the Competition Commission. .

Early this morning, the Competition Commission, together with the Police Force, Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department, Food and Environmental Hygiene Department, Fire Services Department, Immigration Department and Marine Department, went to the Aberdeen Fish Wholesale Market to take joint action.

The Competition Commission continued to point out that it had received complaints earlier that some wholesalers in the wholesale market were suspected of collusion in pricing seafood when setting wholesale prices, which violated the "first conduct rule" under the "Competition Ordinance".

During the operation, the Competition Commission collected information related to the case, including asking the practitioners of more than 30 fish wholesalers through questionnaires.

The Competition Commission stated that it is following up the case and will keep in touch with the Organized Crime and Triad Bureau of the police and other relevant departments during the process. It appeals to any fishery practitioners or citizens who can provide information on the case or related behavior.
