There had been no Christmas markets in Peiting and Herzogsägmühle for two years due to the corona pandemic.

The past weekend in Advent showed how much people had missed them.

Herzogsägmühle/Peiting - Christmas figures made of wood, tastefully bound books and notepads, brightly painted pottery and decorations from the one-world shop: all this and much more could be admired and bought at the traditional Herzogsägmühle Christmas market from Friday to Sunday.

The popularity of the event is shown by the large number of visitors: Despite the occasional rain, numerous visitors streamed through the village square, the market garden and the Mühlen Markt, in the Deckerhalle and in the Rainer-Endisch-Saal people stepped on each other's toes at times.

For the organizers it was like a sigh of relief.

"At last something is happening again," says Marco Weise happily, looking back at the past two years, in which nothing worked at all due to the corona.

This was a heavy blow, especially for the residents of the Diakonie, since the goods they produce in the training companies are the pride of the facility.

Presenting them to the public is one of the big highlights of the year.

"The companies live from it," says employee Gabi Fischer.

Last but not least, the income from the sales proceeds go back to the training centers.

Special promotion for young visitors

Around the decorated village square, a wide variety of food and drinks provided for physical well-being.

Special attention was paid to the little ones this year, of which Weise was particularly proud.

A lot of creativity and inventive spirit went into the considerations.

The result was a grocery store that had it all.

The brave little explorers first had to earn access to it by means of a game pass, which was available at the information stand in the decking hall.

Then the search for two small houses began.

Once they were found, it was time to look for the right stamps for the playing cards.

The highlight: only small earthlings could get into the little house.

With the stamped playing cards we went shopping in front of the Rainer-Endisch-Saal.

Here, too, only small people fit through the door,

But that's not all - more offers for small and large, young and old awaited in abundance.

The light and wax manufactory, for example, offered artistically made candles and torches, and cheap second-hand items were available in the rummage box.

Of course, Santa Claus also appeared at the end to give sweets to young and old.

You could also rely on the man with the bishop's miter and the red coat at the Peitingen Christmas market.

On Saturday, just before nightfall, the bell on his golden staff could be heard jingling.

He walked slowly through the rows past the brightly and decoratively decorated stalls to the town hall door, where the large sacks of cloth were stored.

Of course with the coveted content.

More than 300 chocolate Santa Clauses were distributed to the children that evening.

And Santa Claus always had a suitable saying in store.

You only had to do without Krampus and the angels this year.

"They all stayed at home with a cold and a cold," the kind man regretted.

Large offer and Christmas sounds

Of course, this did not detract from the atmosphere.

The main square radiated a Christmas atmosphere with its many fairy lights.

Visitors flocked to the booths.

The local kindergartens offered Advent arrangements and lots of handicrafts.

The big advent calendar was besieged by the children.

The long queue in front of the fire brigade booth, where the classic “Half-Meter Bratwurst” was served, was unmistakable.

The Trachten- und Knappschaftskapelle first hit the drums on Saturday, then it got Christmassy.

A change of different melodies suitable for the first weekend in Advent, which the market community was so looking forward to after the long break.
