An estimated 20,000 people use Sunday shopping and visit the Christmas market in Tölzer Markstraße.

The pent-up demand of the people is probably large.

Bad Tölz

– Countless people crowded through the Tölzer Marktstraße on Sunday afternoon.

The Christmas market in combination with the Sunday shopping ensured a lively hustle and bustle.

"It was the most violent thing I've experienced since I've been doing it," sums up Susanne Frey-Allgaier, deputy spa director.

It is always difficult to quantify in numbers.

However, she estimates that 20,000 to 25,000 people – “probably more” – strolled through Marktstrasse during the day.

"It was noticeable that people didn't go home after the end of Sunday shopping, but by 6 p.m. the stands were packed." Most stayed to eat or drink a mulled wine.

Also the resonance

that she received from the dealers - that the small change or rolls and sausages had run out - is an indication that this rush was rare.

“Because they are all professionals who know how much they need.

These are indicators that there were significantly more people than one would have expected in the wildest dreams.” The parking spaces had also reached their capacity limits.

Why was that?

"I think people have a lot of catching up to do," says Frey-Allgaier.

Many would say: "Finally again the Christmas market." It was the same with Leonhardi, and there too the sigh of relief was clearly felt.

The two barren years would make themselves felt.

“People have catching up to do”

Despite the rain, Friday and Saturday were well attended, says Frey-Allgaier.

"There were a lot of buses there on Saturday." It was noticeable that there were many locals there on Sunday.

"Lots of young people and families." Camilla Plöckl also observed this.

She sold lots at the AWO stand at the weekend.

She reports: "There was so much going on." In the course of the afternoon, the second ticket seller next to Plöckl was ordered to the mulled wine stand, also operated by the AWO, because the rush was so large.

Most products were sold out by the end of the day.

The tickets were also just torn out of her hands: “A lady won eight out of ten tickets.

One gentleman bought 50 lots, another 20. That's really a great thing.” Because the proceeds from the sale of lots go to local clubs and organizations.

Rush for children's punch and Reiberdatschi

According to another stand, children's punch and Reiberdatschi went out during the day. Julia Bauer, who can be found both in the sweets stand and in the Feuerzangenbowle stand of the Kaiser family, reports: "We almost couldn't keep up." She thinks that's great.

“We are happy that something is going on.

The people were all satisfied.” The line at the candy stand was sometimes extremely long.

Still, nothing went wrong: “Everything worked perfectly.

It can go on like this,” she says, laughing.

A "great start" to the Christmas market, says Frey-Allgaier.

For the further course, she expects further good visitor numbers on the weekends.

Because then there are always activities planned, such as the visit of St. Nicholas and the Krampus run.

She is happy about the good response because "everyone benefits: the hotel industry, gastronomy, retail.

You could see that clearly on Sunday.”
