(S+) Why is hatred of refugees escalating again?

2022-11-28T05:09:50.400Z

The number of those fleeing to Germany is increasing again. And again refugee homes are set on fire. Why? Site visit to an anti-asylum march in Naunhof, Saxony.

What is at stake can be summed up in three figures: 426 people live in Naunhof in Saxony, a small village north of Dresden;

62 people are to be housed there in a refugee home - and more than a thousand people are protesting through the village.

They want to prevent the planned refugee home.

In 2015 they had already managed to do that.

Today they're chanting »Foreigners out«, »Germany for the Germans« and »Lügenprese« again.

It's neo-Nazis, anxious pensioners and followers who are protesting "because everyone is doing it." What exactly is driving them onto the streets?

Will the situation worsen in the coming weeks?

Are we even threatened with a new wave of violence like in 2015?

Answers to this question are provided by Ann-Kathrin Müller, SPIEGEL editor and expert on right-wing extremism.

In addition, SPIEGEL Daily reporter Adrian Breda visited the anti-asylum march in Naunhof.
