Boathouse is not the only project of the fire department

With the construction of a new equipment house in Neuhaus and the energetic renovation, possibly together with the expansion of their headquarters, the Schliersee fire brigade has two not exactly small projects in front of the chest.

That doesn't stop them from tackling another project, and if all goes well, it's done before the others even get started.

A boathouse on the northern shore of Lake Schliersee is what the emergency services have in mind.

The Schliersee fire brigade has been well prepared for operations on the water for six years.

At that time she bought a motor lifeboat.

It is ready for use in the fire station on Bahnhofstrasse.

If it is needed, however, it first has to be attached to a Unimog and taken down to the lake.

Time that the fire brigade would like to save in the future.

Michael Wunderle, Deputy Commander since summer 2021, has been a thorn in his side for a long time.

He took on the matter and was now able to present a location to the community: at the very eastern end of the Kurpark, right next to the boathouse of Schlierseeschifffahrt Lauber.

As Mayor Franz Schnitzenbaumer (CSU) said in the committee, various specialist departments had already been confronted with the project.

For example, the district office, which wanted a windowless hut like the neighbors, and the Bavarian Palace and Lake Administration.

The result: the project is privileged.

It doesn't make much sense anywhere other than directly on the lake.

Council has concerns about the playground next door

Meanwhile, Wolfgang Mundel (CSU) was skeptical: "The place in front bothers me." Because in order to get to the boat hut, the emergency services have to cross the playground at the Kurpark.

Wunderle, who was present at the meeting, assured that the firefighters would not drive to the boathouse by car.

In any case, one would speak of a “maximum crew of three”.

He's had a lot of thoughts.

"In my opinion, the place is not bad." At alternative locations, the journey is simply further.

Ultimately, the committee unanimously agreed.

In some cases, the police could move in

As Wunderle explains when asked, the wooden hut should offer space for two boats.

The second could be that of the police, which is currently stored in the open air.

But nothing is ready for a decision yet, according to the deputy commander.

It is important to him that the fire brigade does not compete with the water rescue service.

This is stationed at the lido.

The fire brigade is primarily active in rescuing people and does not have its own divers, for example.

Schnitzenbaumer did mention that the fire brigade would be on site faster if the water rescue hut was not manned.

The latter is mainly the case outside of the bathing season.

Boats or SUP drivers in distress at sea are also conceivable as deployment scenarios.

Helpful when there are rescuers on site before things get really serious.

Wunderle also names other cases in which the fire brigade moves out onto the lake.

There have already been burning motor boats, spilled oil, even a hot air balloon that has made an emergency landing.

In any case, faster means better, hence the desire for the boathouse.

Wunderle estimates the costs at around 60,000 euros, minus personal contributions and wood donations, which the fire brigade has already been promised.

Ultimately, the municipality is responsible as the fire brigade's material expenses bearer.

The project for next year is included in the budget with 100,000.

If everything goes smoothly, especially the approval of the district office, it could start in the spring, according to Wunderle.

Once the stakes have been set in the lake, the hut for the fire engine boat could be up and running within a few weeks.
