The Brussels Capital/Ixelles police made about ten administrative arrests and one judicial arrest following the clashes that shook the center of the Belgian capital late yesterday afternoon at the end of the Belgium-Morocco match at the World Cup in Qatar.
This was announced by the police themselves.
The arrests were all made against fans of Moroccan origin who, after the victory of the Atlas Lions in Doha, attacked the streets in the center of the Belgian capital and the area adjacent to the Midi station, destroying the street furniture and setting fire to cars, scooters and e-scooters.
Stones, bullets and firecrackers were also thrown during the clashes with the police.
The spokesman for the Brussels fire brigade, Walter Derieuw, also reported the damage to a team vehicle, which was stoned.
A journalist from the local RTBF broadcaster was injured in the face by the fireworks and the public channel has announced it will file a complaint, also reporting that another journalist and a cameraman were physically attacked while covering the riots.
