As-Suwayda - SANA
Volunteers of the Baraem Association for Child Welfare in As-Suwayda today, in cooperation with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, presented a theatrical performance entitled “The World Has Changed”, as part of the activities of the 16-day campaign against gender-based violence.
The show, which was presented on the stage of the Directorate of Education through a women's clinic, dealt with the stories of a group of women who are subjected to various forms of violence for various reasons, including societal beliefs about having children, the nature of the child, doing work, and others.
During a discussion session that followed the show, the audience indicated the need to change some beliefs, customs and traditions, and upbringing methods that promote gender-based violence, work to empower women educationally and economically, and strengthen laws that support their rights and the rights of men at the same time.
The coordinator of the gender-based violence program at Al-Baraem Association for Child Welfare, Rana Al-Mazawi, pointed out in a statement to SANA reporter that the event aimed to shed light on the forms of gender-based violence that women and girls are exposed to, and the need to combat them, calling for non-discrimination between the sexes, and promoting aspects of gender-based violence. Work and education contribute to the life of women and empower them, which reflects positively on society.
At the end of the show, a singing segment of authentic music was presented, with the oud instrument played by the young talent, Hadeel Al-Hussein.
