That went faster than expected: The 19 climate activists of the last generation who were in custody in Stadelheim have been free since Saturday.

Actually, some of them should have stayed in prison until December 2nd.

"We are constantly required to check the conditions for custody," said a police spokesman on Saturday.

"That led to us coming to the conclusion on Friday afternoon that the conditions for detention were no longer met."

Munich: Climate activists were released from prison on Saturday

It was already clear on Friday that the activists would be released, but after consultation with all those imprisoned, they were only released on Saturday, "no longer at night," according to the police.

The reason for the dismissal was an announcement by the Last Generation group that it would not commit any further crimes for the time being: After a harshly criticized protest action at Berlin Airport, they had assured that they would initially refrain from further actions in Berlin and Munich.

You can "guarantee free travel and flights," said a statement from Berlin.

Spokeswoman Aimée van Baalen said society and politics "could use a breather to calm heated spirits".

One wants to give the government space to “resolutely counteract its duty under the climate collapse”.

Munich: Climate adhesives only want to stop actions when their demands have been met

However, this will only be a short breather.

Because the climate stickers announced at the same time: "We are closely monitoring the political changes and are ready to continue to open up the interruptions with all the people who are pouring in the week starting December 5th." So further actions are to be expected in the near future.

The last generation only wants to stop when two of their demands are met: the introduction of a 9-euro ticket and speed limits.

The fact that some of the climate adhesives were now in Stadelheim for almost a month is possible thanks to the Bavarian Police Tasks Act (PAG): According to this, people can be taken into custody for up to a month on the basis of a judicial decision in order to commit further administrative offenses or a criminal offence to prevent.

This period can be extended by a maximum of one month.
