District – Advent in the district began this weekend with Christmas markets in many places.

We collected impressions in Oberhausen, Huglfing, Seeshaupt, Polling, Pähl, Raisting and Penzberg.

Huglfing:

In and around the Pfarrstadl in Huglfing, St. Nicholas and his angels came to visit, the children sang Christmas carols, and various music groups created an Advent atmosphere.

At many stands there was a large selection of gift ideas.

"A wondrous surprise" was sold by four women from Huglfinger at their stand. In every package there was a surprise, it was said, which would cause a sensation under the tree at Christmas - just like so-called surprise balls.

A total of 285 gifts and 100 balls were waiting for buyers.

The proceeds of the campaign are intended for the purchase of a church bell and Christmas market stands.

Anyone who wanted to write their wishes to the Christkind could post the letter in Huglfing at the “Christkindlpostamt”.

Oberhausen:

The horns played pre-Christmas tunes on Saturday afternoon and got the visitors in the mood for an Advent stroll through the Oberhausen Christmas market.

On offer there were Advent wreaths, flower arrangements and lots of handicrafts.

It smelled like cake, coffee and cookies as well as bratwurst.

The hard-working helpers around Barbara Sterzer had knitted socks for the stand of the women's association, organizer of the market. Mobile phone cases, collecting cups with candles as well as macrame work and pot holders were also part of the offer.

The farmers' wives had organized a gingerbread baking for the little ones, and the children were allowed to decorate the gingerbread as they wished.

Polling:

The 35th Christmas market in Polling was opened to the tune of music from the Pollinger Musikverein.

Already in the early Sunday morning there was a lively crowd at the 24 stands.

In addition to a lot of culinary things, the "Lebenshilfe" sold socks, paper stars, door wreaths and small concrete angels.

"Everything is done by the residents and carers themselves all year round," says educator Anna Wandinger.

Visitors could buy bells, dolls, straw angels and cups from the Ukrainian Natalia Morozova.

According to Morozova, the ornaments used to decorate objects have been part of the Ukrainian tradition since the 18th century.

Seeshaupt:

On the school grounds in Seeshaupt, an old Bavarian Christmas market attracted visitors.

In the sunshine, they were happy to treat themselves to a glass of mulled wine with family and friends.

There was a lot to see at around 15 stands.

Everything about Doris Hausner from Eberfing was homemade.

The saleswoman had lovingly draped Christmas tree decorations, small baskets, angels, balls of wool to hang up and wreaths.

"I craft all year round," she said.

She also had several small bags of walnuts from her six nut trees on offer.

She has been to the market three times and has sold almost everything each time.

Pähl:

There was a lively crowd at the parish and community center in Pähl.

Culinary items such as shepherd's soup, Schupfnudeln and fresh, warm meat loaf were in great demand.

Possible Christmas gifts such as footstools, wooden stars and birdhouses awaited the buyers.

Anyone who wanted to take a tour of the village could take a seat in a carriage.

At the stand of Gabriele Bernhard from Fischen, everything was self-made.

The little driftwood angels made from Ammersee wood were particularly popular, and sold like the self-designed Christmas cards.

Not just an attraction for children: sheep at the market in Päh, where visitors could stroll around in the sunshine.

Raisting:

The smell of bratwurst, sauerkraut and fish on a stick was in the air.

In Raisting, the traditional Christmas market took place over two days at the "Drexl" inn.

There was not only a lot to see outside, but also inside it was festive, with little lights shining.

Wilhelmine Brenner from Entraching had a huge selection of crib figures.

They had around 1000 pieces on offer.

Her husband, who died two years ago, carved them all himself.

There were figures made of linden wood and maple wood, from mini to large.

And at the same time, Brenner's son Roland offered home-made "Windachtal honey".

Penzberg:

Advent arrangements, homemade Christmas decorations, mistletoe and fir branches and many, many gift ideas for Christmas: A colorful mixture of Christmas goods was presented at the around 65 stalls of the Penzberg Christmas market on Saturday - and of course there was also a lot of delicious food and to drink, such as bratwurst and mulled wine, roasted almonds, gingerbread and much more.

"Thank God," said Michaela Pfeifer, for example, the market was able to take place again this year after a three-year break due to the pandemic.

The visitor had come from Bad Bayersoien specifically to stroll through the Christmas market with her small grandchildren, the stands of which had been set up in parts of Bahnhofstrasse and Karlstrasse.

The magical attraction for the little visitors was the living nativity scene in front of the Christkönigkirche, where you could marvel at real sheep, an ox and a donkey and sometimes even pet them - if the animals allowed it.
