Angoulême Festival 2023: the rich official selection of fifty years

The event dedicated to the ninth art has unveiled the 46 albums in competition for its 50th edition, which will be held from January 26 to 29, 2023.


The Angoulême comic book festival, which will take place from January 26 to 29, has presented the official selection of its 50th anniversary edition.

The event revealed during a press conference at the prestigious Richelieu site of the BnF in Paris, the 46 titles of the official selection in the running for the Fauve d'or for best album.

The grand jury responsible for electing the Golden Fauve is chaired this year by actor and director Alexandre Astier.

Announced during the press conference, the two awards of the René Goscinny Prize, enriched since last year by the René Goscinny Prize - Young screenwriter, devoting an emerging talent, were awarded respectively to Thierry Smolderen for

Cauchemars Ex Machina

(Dargaud) and to Mieke Versyp, author of the graphic novel

Peau

, also in the running for the Fauve d'or, drawn by Sabien Clement (Editions here and there).

In terms of programming, the exhibitions will celebrate the diversity of the work of Julie Doucet (president of this 50th edition), the baroque worlds of Philippe Druillet as well as the phenomenon

Attack on Titan

, the colossally successful manga saga by Hajime Isayawa.

Two other mangakas, the master of horror manga Junji Ito and Ryôichi Ikegami known in particular for

Crying Freeman

, a series for adults adapted freely on the big screen by Christophe Gans.

A panel greeted, this Monday morning, by the artistic directors Sonia Deschamps and Fausto Fasulo:

“One of our major challenges is the place of manga.

Mangakas are rare personalities, the opportunity to have them at the Festival is a unique chance.

Particularly honored this year, young people will be able to revel in the beautiful work of Marguerite Abouet, creator of the tasty series

Aya de Yopougon, Akissi

and

Commissaire Kouamé.

The Festival will honor ten young emerging talents from different countries with the unprecedented exhibition

World Comics Explosion.
