Suspension of the doctor who provided cakes to the terrorist:

Two female workers at the Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital stated that they were the ones who distributed the cakes to the terrorist on their own accord, and not Dr. Ahmed Mahajana. "Israel Hayom" for the first time reveals their testimony and the testimony of another doctor.

The affidavits of the two workers and the doctor were presented by Dr. Mahajana during the hearing, after which the acting director of the hospital found that he was the one who provided the cakes to the terrorist Muhammad Abu Kataish, who carried out the stabbing attack in Jerusalem last month. The affidavits contradict other testimonies received by the management The hospital, from the police and nurses who were there.

Suhad Hassan Sabitan, a kitchen and food department worker in the Cardiothoracic Surgery Department in Hadassah, wrote in her affidavit that she was the one who provided the cakes to the terrorist: on 10/26/2022, after the doctors' party in the department ended, a lot of food was left behind.

The food and sweets were distributed by me and by the mastist (auxiliary force) to all the patients of the ward." Sabitan noted that on that day there were four patients in the ward.

Asmaa Awad, who also works in the department, wrote in the affidavit that she was the one who provided the cakes together with the kitchen worker.

"Dr. Ahmed did not ask me to take food to the patient who was in room 7 (the room where the terrorist was hospitalized, p.s.)," she stated.

"After the party ended, there was a lot of food left over. I and the rest of the nursing staff and the cleaning workers told Dr. Islam and Dr. Ahmed that we wanted to distribute the food to the other patients because it would be a shame to throw it away, and they both said, 'Yes, share.'

Dr. Ahmed was in room number 7, which I entered with two plates of food. He checked the patient, I heard him ask in Arabic how are you today, he didn't tell him anything else. Dr. Ahmed asked the police to put the patient in a chair because he has to do physical therapy."

Awad described what happened in the room where the terrorist was staying.

"Dr. Ahmed didn't ask for my help because I was holding two plates.

I put them on the table next to the patient, I brought the table closer to him so he could eat, I didn't know that it was forbidden to bring food to patients.

Dr. Ahmed did not tell me that they only give food to room number 7. All the patients asked and knew that it was food from Dr. Islam and Dr. Ahmed. I hope that I will continue to work at Hadassah. I am a widow and owe this work to my livelihood for my children."

Another doctor testified: "The police asked who put food in, Dr. Ahmed said 'me'"

In addition to the affidavits of the women, an affidavit was submitted by a doctor in the department, Dr. Rafat Abu Ganam. "In room 7 was the patient Abu Kitsch (the terrorist, NB) with two police officers. When they entered the auxiliary force entered there and put two plates of food for the patient. D." R. Ahmed asked the policemen to lower the patient to a chair for physical therapy.

"After we left there, we went to the doctor's room. After a few minutes, a policeman approached and shouted who put the food in room 7. Dr. Ahmed immediately said, 'Me, what's the problem' and 'no need to shout.'

One of the police officers stopped Dr. Ahmed and shouted from him for his name and ID. Dr. Ahmed told him 'you don't need to shout' and 'you can get my name from the head of the department'.

Dr. Ahmed was sitting at a computer station and the policeman started filming Dr. Ahmed.

Dr. Ahmed got mad at him and told him, 'It's stupid to take pictures of me,'" testified Dr. Abu Ghanam.

In the other testimonies of the police officers and nurses, who convinced the hospital to suspend Dr. Mahajana, it was reported that the doctor greeted the terrorist and told him "Blessed" and also called one of the police officers "stupid". "After Hadassah seriously examined the totality of the circumstances, Including the various testimonies that were given and the things that Dr. Mahajana said at the disciplinary inquiry meeting, the picture that emerges is that Dr. Mahajana did indeed do what was attributed to him," the decision reads.

However, the Medical Association opposed the suspension of the doctor or his dismissal and in a letter they sent to Hadassah they wrote that "no sufficient factual basis was laid" and that "it is not clear on what basis Hadassah believes that the doctor did what is attributed to him".

Attorney Leah Wefner, CEO of the Histadrut, demanded that an external arbitrator be appointed to examine the matters.
