China: fed up with anti-Covid restrictions turns into political rebellion

Bundled up in parkas, the clusters of demonstrators brandish sheets of white A4 paper in the night, along the Liangmahe River, bucolic lung in the heart of the concrete of Beijing, Sunday evening.

A fragile symbol to denounce the great army of censorship, and become a rallying sign for a spectacular protest movement such as China has not known since Tian An Men.

"Back to work!"

shout the hundreds of young people, to the sound of the International, denouncing the relentless Zero-Covid strategy of President Xi Jinping which has been locking down the second world economy for almost three years.

Over the course of the evening, the health fed up gives way to explosive political demands, defying the communist regime, in the heart of its showcase capital, as never in decades.

"The Chinese people want democracy!"
