A human skull discovered in October during excavations intended to find the remains of the body of Marie-Thérèse Bonfanti, a young woman who disappeared in 1986, "

corresponds

" to the genetic profile of the latter, the Grenoble prosecutor said on Monday.

According to the result of the DNA expertise carried out by the research institute of the national gendarmerie (IRCGN), "

the genetic profile found corresponds to that of Marie-Thérèse Bonfanti

", indicated the prosecutor Eric Vaillant in a brief press release.

Marie-Thérèse Bonfanti, 25 and mother of two children, disappeared on May 22, 1986 while distributing newspapers in Pontcharra (Isère).

A man, who lived nearby at the time, had been suspected and then released and the investigation ended in a dismissal in November 1987. Mr. Vaillant announced in May 2022 that the case had finally been elucidated .

This same man, who lived in Savoie and was then 56 years old, had been arrested and admitted to "

having killed

" Ms. Bonfanti.

He had been indicted for "

kidnapping, forcible confinement and murder

" and imprisoned.

Excavations, organized on his instructions, had led to the discovery of the skull in Buissière (Isère), near Pontcharra, on October 26.
