The District Court in Haifa today (Monday) sentenced Adham Bashir, a resident of Acre in his twenties, to ten years in prison, one of three involved in the lynching of Mor Janashvili during the "Guardian of the Walls" riots.

Bashir was convicted of aggravated assault with aggravated intent and rioting, all with a nationalist-ideological motive.

During the lynching, the rioters threw stones at Janshvili, who was seriously injured as a result and needed a long rehabilitation.

Judges Yehiel Lifshitz, Galit Ziegler and Eyal Baumgart handed down the verdict unanimously.

During the reading of the sentence, Bashir's relatives shouted "Allah Akbar" in the hall in front of Janashvili's relatives and associates who chanted "Aam Yisrael Chai".

The incident in question took place on the peak day of the riots, in May last year, which was the night of Eid al-Fitr, the end of Ramadan.

Dozens of young people rioted that evening at the corner of the streets of Arbe'a Street and Janush Korchak in Acre.

Prosecutor Ohad Cohen from the North District Attorney's Office asked for Bashir to be sentenced to 10 to 13 years.

The accused Bilal Hilwani, who was only accused of rioting, was recently sentenced to only one year in prison.

The trial of the main defendant in the case - the one accused of attempted murder - and the trial of five other defendants in another case for this incident are still ongoing.

"The hand is still tipped," says an official at the prosecutor's office, who also points out that the prosecution of those involved in the lynching was complex because, due to the intensity of the events at that time, "there was no one to catch them and no one to collect evidence."

The rioters threw stones at a police sprinkler that came to the scene to disperse them, and blocked the travel lanes at the corner of the streets with furniture and various objects.

When they reached Derech Arvea Street, Janshvili passed a square on the street and noticed the rioters and the roadblocks.

He tried to escape from the rioters by driving backwards, but in view of the fact that one of them approached the vehicle and tried to open the vehicle door, and also in view of the fact that another vehicle blocked one of the exits from the square, he stopped the vehicle and tried to escape by driving forward.

At this point, and while the vehicle was in motion, the rioters who were standing along the road through the four, threw dozens of stones at the vehicle and hit it in various places, including the windshield.

In his attempt to escape from the rioters, Janshvili accelerated the speed of the vehicle while the rioters threw more stones at his vehicle.

As a result of the stones hitting the vehicle, Janshvili lost control of the vehicle and collided with the wall at the street corner, while the vehicle hit a young man in his twenties who was standing at the street corner.
