A citizens' initiative was founded in Eglfing, which opposes the construction of a dairy farm for 500 cows, which a local farmer wants to build.
The speakers emphasize that they have nothing against agriculture, the only thing that bothers them is the size of the facility.
Eglfing
– With a demonstration in front of the site where the dairy farm is planned, their opponents kicked off a series of actions on Saturday.
Among other things, banners should be hung up in the village to attract attention.
The district administrator Andrea Jochner-Weiß should also be informed about the concerns of the Eglfinger citizens.
The organizers collected signatures to show that the protests were popular with many - and not just a few citizens living near the planned facility.
They found 670 supporters, "the majority of them from the village," emphasizes Rosemarie Strasser, who is part of the ten-strong organizing team.
Josef Landes emphasizes that he acts according to the motto "live and let live".
He has nothing against agriculture, but the size of the facility bothers him.
500 cows would need about 50,000 liters of water a day, and more in the summer.
This could overwhelm the community's water supply.
In addition, a farmer should only have as many cattle as are suitable for his land (this applies to the cultivation of fodder as well as to the spreading of liquid manure).
Traffic, noise and odor emissions feared
Dietrich Lewald sees a danger for the village, in which tourism also plays a role.
The plant would cause traffic, noise and odor emissions, which would endanger tourism.
In addition, the value of the property in Obereglfing would fall.
Councilor Rosemarie Strasser, who, like all her colleagues, has already voted against the project in the council, also sees the neighboring building area in danger, in which plots are planned in the local model: "Who else should want to go there?"
The citizens' initiative sees other problems in that the plant requires a lot of space, that the corn cultivation required for the operation endangers biodiversity and that the operation is not socially acceptable due to its size, as it displaces smaller farmers.
According to Strasser, one problem for the municipality is that the municipal council has no say in the construction of an outdoor agricultural facility.
The decision rests with the District Attorney's Office.
That's why the citizens' initiative has put its request in writing and wants to hand over the letter to Jochner-Weiss this week, together with the supporters' signatures.
A biogas plant is also planned
The dairy cattle facility, for which a preliminary building application was submitted, includes a barn with space for 500 cows, two silos, a feed hall, concentrated feed silos and a slurry store with a volume of 7500 cubic meters.
In addition, a biogas plant with a 3800 cubic meter fermentation tank is planned, the gas from which is to be converted into electricity.
