There was criticism of Nancy Faeser's (SPD) naturalization plans from both the FDP and the Union.

The young liberals think that this is “extremely embarrassing”, especially in the case of Friedrich Merz.

In contrast to several FDP politicians such as FDP General Secretary Bijan Djir-Sarai or Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, who see Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser's (SPD) plans on naturalization rights too quickly, the Young Liberals (JuLis) see them as good Signal.

In an interview with BuzzFeed News DE

from IPPEN.MEDIA

, they primarily criticize the propaganda of the Union, which fears “immigration into the social systems” with the reform.

CDU leader Friedrich Merz commented on the naturalization plans of the traffic light coalition.

BuzzFeed News has also spoken to the Young Liberals about retirement at 70, for which they have suggested alternatives.

Naturalization plans: Union politicians warn against "selling" German citizenship

According to the

German Press Agency (dpa)

, Faeser's plans envisage shortening the minimum length of stay for naturalization from eight to five years, and to three years in the case of special integration services.

Foreigners should no longer have to give up their old citizenship to become German.

This also applies to children of foreigners who have been legally living in Germany for at least eight years.

They should no longer have to decide on citizenship at the age of 23.

Previously applicable language level requirements are also to be lowered.

The plans of the traffic light coalition (SPD, Greens, FDP) triggered a debate.

Union politicians even warned against "selling" German citizenship and see the plans as "social explosives".

CDU leader Friedrich Merz said on Sunday, November 27, in the ARD: "German citizenship is something very valuable, and you have to be careful with it." immigration into the social systems is taking place.

But there is criticism not only from the opposition: Some of the FDP were also annoyed about the naturalization reform.

Above all, they are pushing for better support for labor migration and for more support from the federal government in enforcing the obligation to leave the country and deportations.

FDP General Secretary Bijan Djir-Sarai told the

Rheinische Post

on Monday, November 28: "Now is not the time to simplify citizenship law." The EU Commission recently spoke with regard to the Mediterranean escape routes.

Young liberals: Friedrich Merz's criticism of the naturalization plans is "very embarrassing"

Franziska Brandmann, Federal Chairwoman of the Young Liberals (JuLis), is

satisfied with the new plans for naturalization in an interview with

BuzzFeed News DE .

"We welcome the proposal to make it possible to obtain German citizenship from the age of five in the future," she says.

This is "a signal to all the skilled workers that we so urgently want to address and win over as part of an immigration offensive".

For them, Germany will be attractive as an “immigration country with the prospect of staying”.

According to Brandmann, naturalization in Germany is explicitly linked to the condition of being able to finance one’s own livelihood and the livelihood of family members.

This is already the case without the reform planned by the traffic light coalition.

That's why you don't understand the criticism of the Union.

"It's extremely embarrassing that Friedrich Merz either doesn't know about this fact or knows it exactly and still speaks of an impending 'immigration into the social systems'," says Brandmann angrily.

The Union was also criticized for its “inhuman opinion making” when it came to citizen income.

After all, it is about enabling those who have successfully integrated into society for years to acquire citizenship more quickly.

The Union is once again carrying out the debate on the backs of the people who are role models for successful integration, and are thus making themselves “dishonest,” the federal chairwoman of JuLis told

BuzzFeed News DE

.

She appealed to Nancy Faeser to submit constructive proposals not only for "promoting skilled immigration" but also for "restricting illegal migration".
