Will Karim Benzema return to the French national team already during the World Cup?
Didier Deschamps did not call up another player when the Ballon d'Or winner was ruled out due to injury and can therefore still use him if he returns to fitness.
According to the Spanish media, Benzema is almost fully fit and is expected to report to Real Madrid training on Thursday.
Theoretically, he can also return to the French squad, as long as coach Deschamps wants it.
Even if he is not recalled to the squad, Benzema will be considered a world champion and will be eligible for a medal if France is able to lift the world cup again at the conclusion of the World Cup final on December 18.
FIFA confirmed that 26 medals will be distributed to the players and as mentioned Benzema's name was not removed from the list submitted by France at the beginning of the tournament.
