Well-known Iranian actress Hengameh Ghasiani was arrested over a week ago for supporting the protests in Iran.

According to Iranian media, she has now been released on bail.

The well-known artist was released on Sunday “by order of the judicial authorities”, as the official news agency IRNA reported on Sunday.

According to the agency Tasnim, she was released on bail.

According to Irna, Ghasiani was arrested for inciting and supporting "riots" and for contact with opposition media.

The vehement critic of the authorities' crackdown on the demonstrators was arrested on November 20 after posting a video on Instagram in which she took off her headscarf.

She called the government a "child killer"

"Maybe this will be my last post," she wrote.

"Whatever happens to me, you should know that I will stand by the Iranian people until my last breath." The week before, she had called the Iranian government a "child killer" and accused it of killing more than 50 children to have been "murdered".

On Saturday, local media reported the release of well-known Kurdish soccer player Voria Ghafouri, who was arrested on Thursday for "propaganda" against the state.

His wife denied his release on Instagram.

The trigger for the protests in Iran was the death of the 22-year-old Kurdish woman Mahsa Amini in police custody - she was arrested by the vice squad in mid-September because she is said to have worn her headscarf improperly and died a short time later in hospital.

Activists accuse the authorities of mistreating them.

Thousands of people have already been arrested during the crackdown on the protests, including many prominent cultural figures, journalists, lawyers and athletes.
