From threats to murder - the violence on the roads is breaking records, and recently there is a disturbing phenomenon of the use and threat of knives.

The most serious case is the murder of Yuri Volkov, who was stabbed to death at the crossing in Holon;

But apart from that, just in the last two days, two documents were published of citizens threatening other drivers with a knife, just because they got into an argument on the road.

Last night (Sunday) Adi Mizrahi, the suspect in the murder of Yuri Volkov, confessed to the act, expressed regret for his actions and recounted parts of that evening.

On Wednesday evening, October 23, Yuri and his wife Lena were on their way back from an apartment they saw in Holon.

Lena said that a motorcyclist ran a red light and cut them off at a crosswalk.

She took out her phone and took a picture of him.

He followed her to the next crosswalk, stopped next to her and demanded that she delete the photo.

Although the woman agreed, the suspect did not let go.

Yuri approached and tried to calm the spirits - and in response, the suspect stabbed him in the heart.

Yuri continued to walk a few more steps - and collapsed in front of his wife.

He was pronounced dead at Wolfson Hospital.

Volkov, 52 years old at the time of his death, worked for about 20 years as a medical assistant at the Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv, and left behind three children and a granddaughter.

Yesterday, documentation was circulated from an incident from about two weeks ago on Route 431, in which a driver threatened another driver with a knife - and punctured his tires.

A resident of Bat Yam in his 20s was charged for threatening offenses, willful damage to a vehicle and illegal possession of a knife.

In the footage, the driver is seen telling the man who confronted him, "Get out of here, you're cutting me. Get in the car."

In response, the man pulled out a knife and punctured his tires.

Afterwards, the man was seen brandishing a knife and threatening the driver, a resident of Rishon LeZion.

Today, a young man threatened a female driver with a knife during an argument on the road in Rishon Lezion.

The driver, a 50-year-old resident of the city, complained to the police - who, after searches, arrested the suspect, a resident of Rishon Lezion in his 20s.

He was detained for questioning at the station, and tomorrow he will be brought to court with a request to extend his detention.

According to the suspicion and the documentation that was distributed, the young man was driving the car in front of the woman, suddenly braked, got out of his car and approached the window of her car with a knife in his hand, while he was arguing with her about the use of the road.

According to data obtained by Walla!, there is an increase of about 20% in the cases of physical violence on the roads in the last two years.

In 2020, 1,112 investigative cases were opened on suspicion of physical violence on roads throughout the country, in 2021, 1,234 cases were opened, and in the last year that has not yet ended - 1,367 cases.

The data also shows that during the years 2020-2022, about a thousand suspects were arrested on suspicion of violent offenses on the roads.

A survey by the "Or Yerok" association, published at the beginning of the month, showed that one out of every two Israelis reported encountering a fight on the road.

The survey, which was designed to examine the proportion of people reporting various phenomena of anger and aggression on the part of drivers in Israel, also showed that 79% of Israelis reported that they had encountered verbal violence and threatening movements at least once in the past year.
