NFL wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. was removed from an American Airlines flight bound for Los Angeles Sunday morning at Miami International Airport after refusing to comply with security protocol, according to a statement from the NFL. Miami-Dade Police Department.

Agents were notified of a medical emergency on an American Airlines flight around 9:30 a.m. Sunday.

The flight crew became concerned about a passenger, identified by police as Beckham, as they tried to wake him up so he could fasten his seatbelt, according to a Miami police statement.

"He appeared to be going in and out of consciousness, prior to his departure," the police statement said.

"Fearing that Mr. Beckham was seriously ill and that his condition would worsen during the expected 5-hour flight, attendees called the police and fire brigade."

When the agents arrived, they asked Beckham several times to get off the plane and he refused, according to the statement.

The plane was disembarked, at which point Beckham was asked by officers to exit the plane and he did so without incident, the statement said.

“American Airlines Flight 1228, with service from Miami (MIA) to Los Angeles (LAX), returned to the gate prior to takeoff due to a customer failing to follow the instructions of a crew member and refusing to fasten the seat belt (sic).

The customer was removed and the flight departed again at 10:54 a.m. local time," American Airlines said in a statement obtained by CNN.

Daniel Davillier, Beckham's lawyer, issued a statement saying his client boarded the flight that morning without any problems.

The flight had been delayed and Beckham fell asleep with the blanket over his head, a common practice during long flights, Davillier said.

"He was woken up and told the plane was back at the gate and he needed to get off the plane because he didn't put on his seatbelt when asked," Davillier's statement read, adding that Beckham was told it was too late to buckle up and he would have to get off the plane or everyone would have to get off the plane.

"At no time was Mr. Beckham disruptive or combative," Daviller added.

Davillier called the incident "completely unnecessary."

No charges have been filed in the incident and after being escorted by officers into the unsecured area of the terminal on Sunday morning, Beckham "made other arrangements," police say.

Beckham is currently a free agent as he continues to recover from surgery to repair a knee injury suffered in Super Bowl LVI as a member of the Los Angeles Rams in February.

Beckham had a touchdown reception in the Rams' winning effort over the Cincinnati Bengals in that game.

Beckham was seen in Miami sitting courtside at the Miami Heat-Washington Wizards game on Wednesday night, according to video posted on the NBA's official Twitter account.

Jay Leno returned at a California comedy club two weeks after burn accident

By Sonya Hamasaki

Jay Leno returned to the comedy stage on Sunday night, two weeks after suffering severe burns in a gasoline fire.

The former “Tonight Show” host performed in front of a sold-out crowd at the Comedy and Magic Club in Hermosa Beach, California, according to a club spokesperson.

Leno, an avid car collector, had been working under a vehicle on Nov. 12 when it burned down.

The 72-year-old underwent two surgical procedures to treat his injuries, his doctor, Dr. Peter Grossman, said.

Leno suffered burns to his face and hands.

His doctor noticed that Leno was pacing and telling jokes during his stay at the Grossman Burn Center.

The hospital announced in a Nov. 21 press release that Leno had been released.

"Jay will receive follow-up care at the Grossman Outpatient Burn Clinic for burns to his face, chest and hands that he received during a fire in his home's garage," the statement said.

Grossman said he was pleased with Leno's recovery and "optimistic that he will make a full recovery."

"Jay would like everyone to know how grateful he is for the care he received, and he is very grateful for all the well wishes," the hospital added.

"He is looking forward to spending Thanksgiving with his family and friends and wishes everyone a wonderful holiday."

Leno is scheduled to perform three additional shows at the Comedy and Magic Club in December.

A pilot and a passenger were trapped in a small plane for nearly seven hours after it crashed into power lines in Montgomery County, Maryland on Sunday.

Both were rescued, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service Chief Scott Goldstein said Monday morning.

Both were taken to the hospital with serious injuries, including orthopedic injuries and shock trauma and hypothermia, Goldstein said.

The rescue began at 5:30 p.m. local time when crews responded to reports of a small plane that had flown into power lines, said Pete Piringer, chief spokesman for the Montgomery County (MD) Fire and Rescue Service. ).

When the units arrived at the scene, they found a small plane suspended about 30 meters in the air that had struck the tower.

The pilot was identified by Maryland State Police as Patrick Merkle, 65, of Washington.

The passenger is Jan Williams, 66, of Louisiana, state police said in a news release.

The fire department was in communication with the pilot and passenger during the rescue and nearby roads were closed, according to officials.

The crash scene is about 4 miles northwest of the Montgomery County Air Park, state police said.

Rescuers had to wait for the tower to be "grounded or bonded" before they could reach the passengers, Goldstein said during a news conference Sunday night.

That involved crews going up to put clamps or wires on the cables to make sure there was no static electricity or residual power, the chief said.

The plane also needed to be secured to the tower structure, he said.

Foggy weather conditions in the area complicated matters, he added, by affecting visibility.

A utility contractor finished grounding power lines near the plane at 11:30 p.m., Goldstein said, and helped rescue teams secure the plane over the next 45 minutes.

The first person was taken off the plane at 12:25 a.m. and the second was taken about 10 minutes later, Goldstein said.

Goldstein said the department regularly communicated with the plane's occupants during the rescue and moderated the use of their cell phones to conserve their batteries.

Crews will remain on site overnight to remove the aircraft and repair and connect damaged power lines.

About 120,000 customers were without power Sunday night after the accident, but that number dropped to fewer than 1,000 customers early Monday, according to utility Pepco, which provides power to about 894,000 customers in Washington and its surroundings in Maryland.

Montgomery County is just north of Washington.

Schools in Montgomery County will be closed Monday due to widespread power outages, district officials said Sunday night.

The district previously said that more than 40 schools in the Montgomery County Public School system and six central offices were without power, affecting services such as maintenance, buses and food service.

Two hospitals, MedStar Montgomery Medical Center and Holy Cross Hospital, were operating with limited capacity Sunday night due to the power outage, Goldstein said.

Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) officials and leaders of the Maryland State Police were at the scene, Goldstein said late Sunday.

The FAA has imposed an aircraft restriction during the rescue efforts, state police said.

The FAA told CNN the plane is a single-engine Mooney that departed from New York's Westchester County Airport.

The agency will investigate the incident in conjunction with the National Transportation Safety Board.
