Mali's Ministry of Security and Civil Protection announced the implementation of a security operation in the outskirts of the capital, Bamako, which resulted in the release of 10 hostages, including women and children, and the arrest of 4 suspected French kidnappers.
Sputnik agency quoted the ministry as saying in a statement today: “A special unit of the security forces intervened to release hostages who were being held in Missabugu near a Mali hospital, and arrested members of a group of criminals and drug traffickers,” adding: “This operation allowed the release of 10 hostages, including three women and six children, in addition to the arrest of 4 criminals, a Senegalese French citizen, a French Malian and two French nationals.
The statement indicated that the hostage-taking took place on the 18th of this month, and the detainees demanded a ransom of 900 million CFA francs, or to provide information that would allow them to locate cocaine that was seized and confiscated by the Malian Customs Authority earlier.
