Thanks to Casemiro's goal that made it 0:1 over Switzerland, the Brazilian national team became only the second team to secure its place in the round of 16 of the 2022 World Cup. However, the Selção have yet to secure first place at home.
For that they will need at least a draw against Cameroon in the last round.
Switzerland is ranked second at home.
A win against Serbia in the next game will ensure their third consecutive qualification to the round of 16, while a draw will also be enough for them, unless Cameroon surprises Brazil.
A win by the Africans by more than one goal combined with a Swiss draw will advance them, and if they win by one goal then the decision will be determined by the number of right goals.
A loss for Switzerland to Serbia, and it will end its journey in Qatar.

The responses
Brazil captain
Thiago Silva
concluded: "We fulfilled the first task. We are satisfied with the performance today, even if we had quite a few difficulties. It was a tough and close game, but this is the World Cup. This result gives us more confidence, we have a very strong team. We all miss Neymar, He is a key player wherever he plays. We missed him today, but we are ready to get the results needed to leave Neymar the possibility to return later."
Casemiro
, the scorer of the winning goal who was also chosen as the man of the match, was cheered by Neymar who crowned him on Twitter "the best midfielder in the world for a long time".
A Manchester United player said: "We knew it would be a difficult home. The first match was complicated and boring, we estimated that it would be the same this time as well. The goal was to pass a stage and it is important that we achieved it, certainly at such a difficult home. We pressed them well and were patient. It was a game Boring, they knew how to play against us, but we knew how to decide."
The captain of Switzerland, Granit Xhaka, complimented the opponent: "Brazil is very high quality, they know how to play on the ground. Against Serbia it will be different, they raise more, especially for Mitrovic. Today we managed to do some good things, but Brazil is very good. They can put together Three national teams. Casemiro played excellently at Real Madrid, now he's doing it at Manchester United. It's always nice to see him play and play against him, it's a shame he scored against us today."
Coach Murat Yakin expressed regret: "I can't blame my players. They did a good job and managed to draw the opponent to a certain point, and we lacked a little courage to take risks in the attack. We lacked a little luck. This is a disappointing result, because we missed the opportunities If we had, with a little luck we would have had a better result."

Casemiro's figure
the numbers
- Brazil became the first ever to record a streak of 17 games without a loss in the group stage.
The last time they lost in the first stage was 2:1 to Norway in 1998.
Until tonight, Brazil shared the record with the German national team, which did not lose 16 games at home between 1990 and 2010.
- Brazil became the second team since 1966 not to allow their opponents to kick on goal in their first two games in the World Cup.
The first to do so, France in 1998, finished the same tournament with the golden trophy in their hands.
- This is the 14th time in a row that the Brazilian national team has passed the group stage, the longest active streak.
In second place is Mexico, which is on the verge of relegation, with seven consecutive relegations.
- In 20 games under Tita in major tournaments (World Cup or Copa America), Brazil kept a clean sheet 14 times and conceded only seven goals.
- Until tonight, Switzerland was one of three teams (along with Portugal and Hungary) that meets Brazil more than once in the World Cup and does not lose to them.
Switzerland could have become the first to hold a record after three games, but Casemiro's goal knocked them off the list.
- Only once has Brazil scored the first goal in a World Cup game later than Casemiro tonight in the 83rd minute.
It happened in 2018, when Philippe Coutinho made it 0:1 against Costa Rica in the 90th minute.
By the way, in the same game Brazil managed to double to 0:2 in extra time.
