Immediately after receiving the final results of the elections, which broke the malignant electoral iceberg that had dominated us for three years, Benjamin Netanyahu asked to quickly sign concise agreements between the natural partners and thus establish a government close to the swearing in of the Knesset.
Since then, the opposite has been happening, although in terms of the message the electorate sent - this is exactly what should have happened.
Why do the components of the coalition, primarily religious Zionism, refuse to establish a government quickly?
It's all speculation.
But it is clear that there are many figures there who are smarter than Netanyahu and know more than him what is good for the Jews.
For them, preventing the formation of a government headed by Netanyahu until the last minute is part of a move to maximize the assets of the elections.
Maximizing sectoral advantage is of course a noble goal, but the national interest is more important.
The more the negotiations falter and no one knows exactly what the situation is, the more the defeated forces that were in the shock of the elections recover and start attacking, as if nothing had ever happened. Bogi Ya'alon returns to personal attacks on Netanyahu. The Iranians return to nuclear blackmail, and the situation approaches the worst-case scenario.
The provocation incident in Hebron, in which the elite forces managed to frame and possibly incriminate a Givat soldier, is clearly the result of the governmental vacuum.
It is worth reminding the "winners" - perhaps they have forgotten that they have a democratic duty to realize the will of the voters, that for five months and perhaps more there has been an expired government in Israel, but it continues to serve as a transitional government led by Lapid.
Gloomy figures from the Hebron right wing said there is no point in forming a government if "our demands" are not met.
And rules, rules, rules.
In the last two days there was a sense of positive progress towards the formation of a government.
This is also what Bezalel Smotrich and Orit Strock tried to convey in their messages yesterday - according to which a good national government will be established within a few days.
What they don't take into account is the sense of melee that has replaced leadership.
As these falter, former Prime Minister Bennett begins clipping coupons from his year of service.
He defames parts of the Israeli people in the newspaper that opened its pages to him, "The New York Times", and laments the disinformation campaign that was conducted against him and threats.
He found a place to present Israel as a monstrous and undemocratic cocoon.
But Bennett said one thing correctly - there was goodwill and cooperation in the coalition he headed.
It is understood that in the first national test it began to falter until it fell apart - because of terrorism.
Bennett says that the "beautiful Israel" experience of good will in the government was engraved in hearts, and maybe he is not wrong.
Courtesy of the predatory group of provocateurs who do not pay respect to the right-wing leader Netanyahu and do not recognize the Likud leadership as the base of the right-wing pyramid, a bleak picture is etched in the public that creates nervousness, public unrest, to the point of violent anarchy.
Smotrich and the other coalition partners must learn a lesson from Menachem Begin on the eve of the formation of the national Likud government of 1967. Let go of the sectoral maximization, clear the intersection and let the rescue convoy pass.
