Paul Brandt, the Art Deco jeweler we are rediscovering this month

2022-11-28T11:33:13.767Z

Less publicized than his colleagues, Templier or Fouquet, the multiple works of Paul Brandt come back to light this month thanks to a first monograph dedicated to the artist.

Difficult to define the work of Paul Brandt as it is multiple.

Enameller, painter, sculptor, jeweler then decorator... Diverse and varied lives which perhaps ended up eclipsing his jewelery talent in favor of other big names of the Roaring Twenties.

At the end of the year, the art and jewelry historian, Bleue-Marine Massard (who had already rehabilitated the know-how of Louis XV's jeweler, Pierre-André Jacquemin) takes up the thread of history to give back what is due to Paul Brandt.

Like other great names passed down to posterity, this Swiss craftsman based in Paris also shone at the International Exhibition of Decorative Arts in 1925 (both with his adornments designed as works of art and in as a member of the jury alongside a certain Louis Cartier or Georges Fouquet).

A long research work for the author who examines here more than 350 iconographic documents which bring to life the great hours of her alluring jewelry.

After having shone at the landmark salons, he would define himself as an architect-decorator from 1933, refusing to follow the rebellious jewelers who founded the Union of Modern Artists.

The opportunity today to rediscover its treasures, before seeing what performance will make its Wasps pendant in aquamarine, auctioned from December 5 to 15 next at Christie's Paris.
