The police smashed an illegal baccarat gambling stall in Tsuen Wan and arrested 17 people. Violation of the gathering order was charged with a vote.

According to Deng Jingbin, Senior Inspector of the Criminal Department of Tsuen Wan Police District, at about 3 pm today (28th), the anti-triad team launched operations code-named "Gobi" and "Wind Shield" based on tip-offs and raided a tenement building on Yeung Uk Road. Unit, smashed an illegal baccarat gambling stall, seized a baccarat gaming table, 7 TV sets, 4 computers, about 90,000 yuan in gambling money, and 700,000 yuan in face value chips and gambling equipment.

A 40-year-old man surnamed Yang was arrested for "operating a gambling establishment" and violating the Prevention and Control of Disease (Prohibition on Group Gathering) Ordinance (Cap. 599G); another 39-year-old woman surnamed Wang was arrested for "assisting in the operation of a gambling establishment 2 male and 13 female gamblers, aged between 35 and 72, were arrested for the crime of "gambling in a gambling establishment". The gamblers were also suspected of violating the Prevention and Control of Disease (Prohibition of Gathering) Regulations ( Cap. 599G), the officer then issued a fixed penalty notice to them.

All those arrested are being detained for investigation.

Deng reiterated that according to the "Gambling Ordinance" Chapter 148 of the Laws of Hong Kong, anyone who operates or assists in the operation of an illegal casino can be sentenced to a maximum fine of 5 million yuan and imprisonment for 7 years. Anyone who gambles in a casino is also illegal. For the first conviction, the maximum penalty is a fine of 30,000 yuan and imprisonment for 9 months.
